Frequently Asked Question(s) (FAQ)

Am I a member of the student union?

If you registered yourself on your program or course and paid the student union fee, you should also be a member of the student union. You can check the membership in the Student Portal under Student services --> Show student union membership.

According to the Student Portal, I am not a member of the student union but I have paid the union fee, what is wrong?

Have you also registered yourself? Was it for the current semester? The registration and student union fee applies for one semester at a time.

The next step is to find out where you paid. Come into any of student union expeditions with a receipt or an extract from your internet bank showing

    1. Date on which payment was made
    2. Bank giro to which the payment was made
    3. The OCR code you used
    4. Payment name

Using this data, we can find the student union payments  that are on the run.

I think the amount of money on my union payment slip is wrong. Is this possible?

Well, it may unfortunately be wrong. Contact the student union office, and we’ll fix a new payment slip to you.

Can I get a certificate of registration in the student union office?

Nope, you can only get documents that show that you are a student from the university at the Student Center in Zenith.

How about a certificate of student union membership then?

Yes, that we are happy to fix for you!

Can I pay by card in the student union office?

If this is your first semester in Linköping university you can pay the fee directly over the couter. Unfortunately, we only accept cash. The next semester you can not pay at the counter, then you have to use your fee slip and pay at the bank or over the Internet instead.

How much is the fee? And do I have to pay it?

10 June 2009, Parliament decided that compulsory student union membership should be abolished from 1 July 2010. This means that students from July 1, 2010 no longer have to be a member of the student union.
If you do choose to join, your membership-fees will be used to pay for the discounts and benefits you receive at all student union buildings in Norrköping and Linköping, and to support all the work performed by the student unions and other employees.
Without your membership, there would be no student union buildings, nor anyone who can speak in your interest against those who decide at LiU. A large part of your student fees goes also directly to your section, who ensures that you have a pleasant atmosphere in your program and that all students have a direct channel to the programs senior master and others who decide about your program.
Please contact us with your comments, questions and thoughts on how we can do an even better job!
Thanks for your support!

What is STUDENTEN?

Possibly the only book you really need during your entire study period. Seriously. Soon you can read (it in english) about STUDENTEN online or come and pick it up from the student union office!

Why don’t I get my student aid?

Have you registered and submitted a
studieförsäkran through CSN's homepage? Are you absolutely certain? Check again if your registration is ok in the Student Portal. After that, it may be time to call CSN and ask for help. It may be that the university hasn’t reported that you are registered, or that you have taken too few points during the last semester and CSN are now waiting for you’re the results of your next exams.

I can’t log on to the Student Portal. Where do I turn?

Start by contacting the Student Center and request a new activation key for the account. If this doesn’t solve the problem, you can contact the university's IT support for further service.

I have not received my Mecenat card yet! How long should I wait?

You should get the Mecenat card 2-3 weeks after you have been registered. Make sure that the student union has your correct address; the card will be sent to the address the student union has access to at the time you pay our student union fee. If your address is wrong, the card will be returned to Mecenat. If you haven’t received your card and you know that you have recently moved, please check with one of the student union offices if they can locate your card.

My Mecenat card has no SJ / SAS-logo! What happened?

In order to get student discounts, SAS and SJ basically requires that you study full-time throughout the semester. This also includes studies by 75% over the whole semester or full time studies during 15 weeks.
For PhD-students, these rules look a bit different. Check out our side for PhD-students instead!

This Mecenat card sounds very exciting! How do I find out more?

Check the Mecenat website: www.mecenat.se where you can find out interesting things like that if you are under 26, you’ll get the SJ-discount automatically!
